FDOT lists lane closures for Citrus County

Citrus County, FL-- The Florida Department of Transportation has announced only one non-interstate lane closure for Citrus County commuters to keep an eye out for beginning Monday, July 29.

Crews will be repaving Florida Avenue (US 41) between the Hernando/Citrus County Line and South Rip Terrace, so drivers can expect intermittent daily lane closures Monday – Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Inverness, Florida-- The City of Inverness hopes locals who love Jimmy Buffet will attend the upcoming "Parrothead Street Party" on North Pine. 

The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 3rd at 105 N. Pine, and there's no need to worry about it being "5 O' Clock Somewhere." The party starts at 6 p.m. and should last through 11.

HPH Hospice agrees to settlement in False Claims Act allegations

Tampa, Florida -- The United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida announced Monday HPH Hospice, has agreed to pay $1 million to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act by submitting false claims for hospice services to the Medicare and Medicaid programs. 

Two arrested on child abuse, child neglect charges

Inverness, Florida -- Two people face child neglect and child abuse charges after a five-week-old child was taken to a hospital with severe head trauma last week.

On July 16, Citrus County Sheriff's detectives were informed about the baby girl's injuries by a Citrus Memorial Hospital ER doctor which included bleeding in her brain, a large bruise on her left temple area, a bruise near her left chin and marks on her abdominal area.

Citrus County Offers First Time Homebuyers Class

Citrus County Housing Services is offering First Time Homebuyers classes to interested individuals.  One classroom session will be held this month.  There is no charge to attend these sessions, but you must reserve your seat. 

Participants who attend the entire session will receive a Certificate of Completion that is required for Neighborhood Stabilization Program and other first time homebuyer assistance programs.

Household hazardous waste drop off July 27

Citrus County Central Landfill will be conducting a hazardous household waste drop off  on Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Citrus County Central Landfill. 

Citizens may bring up to 60 lbs. or 10 gallons of materials free of charge.

Citrus County offers tips on "What to Plant in July"

Citrus County, Florida-- If you're looking into landscaping, you may want to check out the information included in the Citrus County Extension Services' publication, "What to Plant in July."

They recommend bedding plants like celosia, coleus, torenia and ornamental pepper, bulbs like butterfly lily and gladiolus, and even palms while the rainy season is in full swing.

As for herbs, they say it's too hot to start them from seeds, but that many will do well if started from small plants.
