Community redevelopment funds sent to Crystal River, Inverness

Community redevelopment funds sent to Crystal River, Inverness

Crystal River, Florida -- According to a report issued by the county, the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners is sending out the annual Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) payments to the cities of Crystal River and Inverness.

The county sends checks to both cities in the county each year for their CRAs. The state allows the cities to create CRA zones for a 30-year term and use the taxes from the annual increases in taxable property valuation in that zone -- calculated from the base year -- for redevelopment purposes in that area.

The $272,228 check that goes to the Crystal River (CRA) Trust Fund this year represents the annual payment of taxes from increased property values in the CRA zone from the base year, 1988. Since the CRA was created, the county has sent about $2.5 million to the city, which also contributes to its CRA, though less than the county because of the tax rate differential.

With the city's portion, the funding total so far is around $4 million.
