Temporary art exhibit on display

Inverness, FL -- A collection of artwork showcased at the Taste of Inverness will be on display at the city's Government Center through the end of March.

This temporary exhibit contains 8 pieces from contributing artists, Connie Phillips, Jeanette Berndsen, Kim Shields, Michelle Wirt, Marian Fox, Rebecca Pujals-Jones, Susi LaForsch and Vicki Pritchard.

Crystal River, FL -- Bring your family, picnic basket and blanket and enjoy a night under the stars while watching a free movie this Saturday.

This month's feature for Citrus County's Movies in the Park is "The Tale of Despereaux", Rated G, and will be shown at Bicentennial Park, 501 N. Baseball Point in Crystal River.

Games and activities start at 5 p.m. and the movie starts at 6 p.m.

Popcorn will be supplied.

Celtic group "Cherish the Ladies" comes to Lecanto

Lecanto, Florida -- Celtic group "Cherish the Ladies" is celebrating twenty-five years of folk music making, and their next stop will be playing at The Curtis Peterson Auditorium of Lecanto High School in Lecanto tomorrow night.

According to the group's official website, their critical acclaim has included rave reviews from the New York Times ("expands the annals of Irish music in America, the music is passionate, tender and rambunctious") and The Boston Globe ("It is simply impossible to imagine an audience that wouldn't enjoy what they do").

You can check out the award-winning, internationally-travelled Irish band for yourself, when the show kicks off tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.

Inverness, FL -- Alright, all you lovers out there, the Jazz Concert Series is going to prove that they're style... is your style.

"Jazz is for Lovers" is the theme the 2010-11 Jazz Concert Series will be performing to in their up coming show.

Each feature showcases the band Southern Exposure, Norman Bernard, and other acts.

You can check out the tunes on February 10th at the Historic Courthouse in downtown.

Tickets can be purchased for $25 and all proceeds benefit the Citrus County Historical Society's programs and exhibits, as well at the museum.

The Florida Manatee Festival comes to Crystal River

The 24th annual Florida Manatee Festival is back in Crystal River. The two day celebration takes place January 22 and 23 in downtown Crystal River. Visitors will find everything from fine art and boat tours to children's activities like games, crafts, pony rides, and bounces houses, even education about manatees. The food alone is well worth the small price of admission with booth after booth of seafood and BBQ, kettle corn, pastries and more. You will also be able to browse dozens of vendors from AAA to boats, glass jewelry, pottery, photographers and even puppets.

Inverness, FL -- Crafty farmers will again converge in downtown Inverness this Saturday, Jan. 15.  

The Inverness Farmer's Market is genuine and boasts locally grown and harvested produce, fruits, homemade crafts and wares, and prepared food goods. 

This is a great opportunity to mingle with neighbors, make new friends, listen to live folk/bluegrass music and support a healthy lifestyle. 

The Farmer's Market runs from 8:00 a.m. – noon at the Inverness Government Center.

The market is every month on the third Saturday outside City Hall, 212 W. Main St.

Lecanto alum stars in film alongside A-listers

Lecanto alum stars in film alongside A-listers

Crystal River, FL - Miles Tellers graduated from Citrus county's Lecanto High School in 2005, where he excelled in drama and starred as Willard in his school's production of "Footloose." Now, Teller is playing the exact same part in the upcoming big screen adaptation of the 1984 hit musical.

First, though, the rising star from Lecanto will be seen in a supporting role in a feature film opening this weekend in limited release. The movie, “Rabbit Hole,” stars A-listers like Nicole Kidman, Aaron Eckhart and Dianne Wiest. It has collected a number of award nominations, including a Golden Globe for Kidman for best actress in a drama. Time magazine even named it the top 10.

The film is slated for wider release Dec. 25, and will be shown at the AMC Woodlands Square 20 in Oldsmar, near Citrus County, among other theatres in the greater Bay area.
