Local Social Security office to close permanently by June 30

Local Social Security office to close permanently by June 30

The local Social Security office at the Citrus County Resource Center will be closing permanently by June 30.

The Social Security Administration said the reason for closing it was that such offices had served their purpose now that all services were available online on the Internet or by phone. The county libraries have computer and Internet access for the public, though how that will work for residents unfamiliar with computers has yet to be addressed. County Community Services officials will be discussing that in the coming weeks.

The local Social Security office, a "contact office," or satellite office of the Ocala regional center, had been open on Mondays and Thursdays at the Resource Center off County Road 491 just south of Beverly Hills.
