The American Red Cross recently launched their "Team Red Cross App" that will allow people to sign up to help, get an overview on basic tasks and receive notifications and Red Cross disaster volunteer opportunities in their community.

Kane, retired CCSO K9, dies at 12

It’s funny how a handler and a dog become like each other. Sergeant Ryan Glaze and his K9 Kane were more than just alike – they were both Alpha Dogs. “We even slept the same. He always drove me to do my best”. Kane, a German shepherd that served as a K9 Officer for the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office for seven years, died on June 1 with his partner, Sergeant Ryan Glaze by his side.

Campers to transform into firefighters for a day

Citrus County, Florida-- The Citrus County Sheriff’s Fire Rescue is hosting a Junior Firefighter Training Day this Friday to give young ones a glimpse at a day in the life of a fireman.

Ark Angles Day Camp students between five and nine-years-old will  have the chance to gear up and transform into firefighters for the day. They’ll learn all about fire safety and what they can do to help their families in case of an emergency.

They presented the proclamation to honor Chaplain Woody, who currently volunteers for the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office and serves as Director of Mission Possible Inc.

Smoke Alarm Program for Seniors

Crystal River, Florida -- Nature Coast Volunteer Center has been awarded the "Communities for a Lifetime" grant from the state of Florida Department of Elder Affairs.

The purpose of this program is to provide and install smoke alarms throughout the month of June for seniors in need, age 60 and older. The goal is to help at-risk seniors age in place safely and independently.
