Citrus County, Florida -- If you child hasn't already told you, the Citrus County School District is holding a Food Drive Feb. 4 -15. 

Any household that has any non-perishables they would like to donate, you can give them your child and they can bring them to their teacher.

Lecanto, Florida -- If your New Year's resolution is to become more active or involved in your local community, UF/IFAS Citrus County Extension has the ideal solution for you.

Citrus County Extension is currently seeking volunteers to help enhance their Learning Landscape located behind the Extension office at 3650 West Sovereign Path in Lecanto.

Volunteer assistance is needed to maintain the landscape and horticultural learning center. Activities include planting, trimming, applying mulch and other functions related to the upkeep of the learning center.

If so, consider donating it to Cinderella's Closet, an organization that collects dresses, and the accessories to be worn with then, for underprivileged high-schoolers on the search for the perfect prom dress.

Inverness, Florida -- You can hear about early and current day Inverness during a guided walking tour of historic downtown Inverness.

It's taking place Friday, January 11, from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., at the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum.  

Your guide shows you a small-town rich with parks and history.  Experience the many modes of transportation, the lakes, and the historic structures. Even locals will be amazed and entertained by what they learn.

Inverness walking tours kick off in January

Inverness, Florida -- Beginning Friday, Jan. 11, residents and visitors can take an hour-long escorted walking tour of the historical highlights of Inverness.

Participants will learn about the fascinating history of Inverness and experience the small town charm of the area.

The tour begins at 10:30 a.m. Assemble at 10:15 a.m. at the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum in downtown Inverness to begin the walk.

Reservations only are required. Cost is $5 per person, and $2 per child under 16.  All proceeds go directly to the Citrus County Historical Society.

County proclaims Dec. 11 "Dale McClellan - Farmer of the Year" Day

On Dec. 11, the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners presented a proclamation to Dale McClellan, owner of M & B Dairy at their regular meeting, proclaiming Dec. 11 as “Dale McClellan – Farmer of the Year” Day in Citrus County.

Dale McClellan has been named as the 2012 winner of the Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the Year. His State of the art, 700 cow dairy operation has become a point of pride in Citrus County. M & B Dairy is widely respected and has earned several local awards for its contributions to the economy of Citrus County.
