Crystal River, Florida-- – Thursday, Florida Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Herschel T. Vinyard Jr. joined Senator Charlie Dean and Representatives Elizabeth Porter and Jimmie T. Smith at Hunters Cove, where a living shoreline project to benefit Kings Bay will be constructed.

Citrus County Central Landfill will be conducting a hazardous household waste drop off  on Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Citrus County Central Landfill. 

Citizens may bring up to 60 lbs. or 10 gallons of materials free of charge.

New Recycling Drop-off Center in NW Citrus County

Citrus County, Florida-- Citrus County's carbon footprint could soon decrease, or at least that's the hope as the Division of Solid Waste Management announces the addition of a new Recycling Drop-off Center in the northwest part of the county. 

According to county commissioners, officials feel the new center's location will make it convenient for more residents to recycle, so the county as a whole can come closer to meeting established recycling goals.

Progress Energy crews to manage trees, prevent storm outages

Crystal River, Florida-- Progress Energy crews will be trimming, removing trees, and performing selective herbicide applications in the right of way of the CRCF-CCF500kV transmission line that starts at the Crystal River Power Plant, and ends at the Central Florida Substation in the next few weeks.

According to Progress Energy reps, trees are a leading cause of power outages, and their "progressive tree care practices" will help minimize power outages during storms, without harming the environment, or impacting the area's aesthetics.

Chassahowitzka Springs improvements

Homosassa, Florida -- The Chassahowitzka Springs sediment removal project being conducted by the Southwest Florida Water Management District's team of springs experts is underway.

Eliminating the sand and organic materials that have deposited at the bottom of the spring over time will improve the recreational, economic and ecological value of the Chassahowitzka waterway, resulting in a cleaner, more hisotric looking body of water.

Free Disposal Day for Citrus County Residents: Saturday, May 4

Citrus County, Florida-- The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners and Keep Citrus County Beautiful will be hosting a free disposal spring cleanup day at the central landfill on Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 7:00 am until 4:00 pm.  Businesses will be charged business rates.

Crystal River, Florida -- Keep Citrus County Beautiful and Citrus County Solid Waste Management will be hosting a free disposal spring cleanup day at the central landfill on Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. 

Citizens will need to provide proof of residency by providing a copy of a utility bill.  Any refrigerators or freezers dropped off should have food and doors removed and only ten tires can be dropped off per household. 

Businesses will be charged business rates.
