Rain Barrel Workshops

Citrus County, Florida-- The Citrus County Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program and The Green Footprint of Crystal River invite Citrus residents to attend rain barrel workshops taking place this Spring.

In a release about the event, organizers explain the impact rain barrels can make, and information on the various workshops offered:

Summer showers quickly fill rain barrels with naturally soft water that is nourishing for plants.

In fact, a half-inch of rain on an average roof yields over 300 gallons of water - enough to fill more than five barrels. Rain barrels are an environmentally-friendly way to save water and help plants.

The Citrus County Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ program has partnered with The Green Footprint of Crystal River to offer rain barrel workshops.  Participants help assemble their own rain barrel to take home after the class.

A rain barrel workshop will be held March 4, 2013 at the extension services building located in the Lecanto Government Complex from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Two workshops will be held during Market Day at The Shoppes of Heritage Village, located at 657 N. Citrus Avenue in the heart of Historic Downtown Crystal River on Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m.

The cost per barrel is $45.00, which includes the necessary spigot and screen. For each barrel purchased, The Green Footprint donates $4 to a scholarship fund for Citrus County students pursuing a degree in a field that promotes environmental conservation and stewardship, such as environmental science, agriculture, horticulture or other related field.

Call Julie or Tracy at (352) 257-5403 to reserve your spot. Phone credit card payments and cash are accepted.

Pre-registration is necessary.  Interested in more green learning opportunities, register for the Little Green Footprints - Herb Gardening Youth Activity workshop scheduled for Saturday, April 13, 2013, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m and 1 to 2:30 p.m.
