New details in Homosassa coin collector murder case


Brooksville, Florida — There's new information in an unsolved murder that now happened a month ago with a person of interest still on the run.

Homosassa coin collector Billy Shuler disappeared and was found dead near B21 Liquors in Tarpon Springs in May, and those closest to the man say they want justice now.

"Everybody has a father. I beg, please, I want to spend Father's Day with my dad," said Billy Shuler's son Dan one month ago.

Lightning strike caused house fire


LECANTO, Florida -- A lightning strike is blamed for a fire today that destroyed a $500,000 house and left two pets dead.

At 5:44 p.m., the Citrus County Sheriff's Office's Division of Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at 1341 N. Crause Point in Lecanto. Engine 71 from Connell Heights arrived at 5:55 p.m. and found the 3,100-square-foot home heavily involved, according to Keith Long, battalion chief.

Help needed to find kitten that bit Citrus man


Inverness, Florida -- Citrus County officials are asking for the public's help locating a kitten that bit a man in the area of 3535 S. Diamond Ave. in Inverness on June 5.

Officials say the kitten was described as being accompanied by a sibling kitten and that one of them was black and the other was grey and black.

Homosassa, Florida --- In the Bay Area, one grassroots group is celebrating the release of the country's last POW in Afghanistan.

"Bring Bowe Home" has been working for months to keep Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl front and center in our minds.

"He was the only known living POW in Afghanistan," said "Bring Bowe Home" organizer Cynthia Holden.

Now that Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl is on his way back to the States, she says she can rest a little easier.

Local pool to remain closed due to vandalism.


Citrus County, Florida -- The opening Central Ridge Pool has been pushed back due to vandalism.

The pool was suppose to reopen for member on Sunday, May 4. Due to vandalism, the pool will re-open for normal business on Saturday, May 10.

Some of the vandalism includes a cement bench being moved and dropped into the pool, broken pool tiles and ladders pulled away from the wall.

Search continues for 74-year-old missing pilot


Citrus County, Florida - The search continues for a 74-year-old pilot who's been missing since Monday.

Crews believe the plane Theodore Weiss was flying in went down in the Withlacoochee State Forest in Citrus County after he left Dunellon Airport for Zephyrhills Saturday.

Crews search 40,000+ acres for missing pilot


Lecanto, Florida -- Right now, more than 125 people are scouring some of the thickest woods in Florida searching for missing pilot Theodore Weiss.

Investigators believe his small plane likely went down Saturday in the Withlacoochee State Forest in Citrus County after he left Dunnellon Airport near Ocala, heading for Zephyrhills.

The huge effort to find the pilot and his plane is based out of a command post on the edge of the forest in Lecanto.

Fatal pedestrian accident in Citrus County


Crystal River, Florida -- A pedestrian crossing Highway 41 died after being hit by a car.

Around 8 p.m. on Friday evening Judith Corman was driving her Ford Ranger on US 41. Near Mossy Oak Road Rebecca Young traveled in the path of the vehicle and, due to low-light conditions, was hit by the car.

Young died at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.

Citrus paramedics busted for making meth

Citrus County, Florida -- A search warrant at a home in Inverness resulted in the arrest of three people, two of which were paramedics working for Naturecoast EMS.

The search home on South Fernpark Terrace was searched on Wednesday after a month long investigation into methamphetamine manufacturing at the home. Found inside the home were all the chemicals needed to make meth and numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia.

Stephanie Smith, Jeffrey Kehr and Heather Carson were all arrested. Kehr and Carson are both paramedics and arrested at their place of work.
