National Peace Officer Memorial Day

Inverness, Florida-- As part of National Police Week, the local chapter of the National Association of Retired Law Enforcement Officers will conduct a memorial service to honor fallen members of law enforcement.  

Names of those killed in the line of duty this past year will be read and wreaths will be placed in their memory. 

It's taking place Wednesday May 15, 2013 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Cooter Pond Park.

Mail carriers collect food for Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive!

Carrollwood, Florida - Mail carriers will take part in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Residents can leave non-perishable food item by their mailbox and the letter carrier will pick it up. The food will be donated to food banks to distribute to needy citizens.

Last year, over 70-million pounds of food was donated across the country.

If you cannot leave food items by your mailbox, you can drop it by your local post office.

Crystal River, Florida -- Join Nature Coast Volunteer Center on Thursday, May 9th, 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm, at Central Ridge Community Center for an Open House and Ice Cream Social to celebrate Senior Corp. Week. 

You can take a tour of the community center, visit volunteer stations and find out about volunteer opportunities. 

It's all taking place at 77 Civic Circle in Beverly Hills.

Inverness, Florida --Here’s a combo you’re sure to enjoy. It’s Music & Munchies in May with Music in the Park - a FREE outdoor concert with music spanning every generation.

From classical, swing & big band eras to jazz, pop & rock tunes. There will be over a half dozen groups providing entertainment during this 4 hour nonstop music marathon. Instruments will range from vocals to brass, bugles to sax, and drums to woodwinds.

Free Disposal Day for Citrus County Residents: Saturday, May 4

Citrus County, Florida-- The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners and Keep Citrus County Beautiful will be hosting a free disposal spring cleanup day at the central landfill on Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 7:00 am until 4:00 pm.  Businesses will be charged business rates.

Crystal River, Florida -- Keep Citrus County Beautiful and Citrus County Solid Waste Management will be hosting a free disposal spring cleanup day at the central landfill on Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. 

Citizens will need to provide proof of residency by providing a copy of a utility bill.  Any refrigerators or freezers dropped off should have food and doors removed and only ten tires can be dropped off per household. 

Businesses will be charged business rates.

Tampa Bay Rays baseball trip

Tampa Bay Rays baseball trip

Crystal River, Florida --  Citrus County's Home Delivered Meals Program and the Senior Foundation of Citrus County are scheduling trips to the Tampa Bay Rays Baseball games. 

Tickets are $45 each and include round-trip chartered bus transportation from the Citrus County Resource Center to Tropicana Field in Saint Petersburg and admission/seating at the game. 

The next one is taking place on Wednesday, April 24, 2013. 

The game will be against the New York Yankees and starts at 7:10pm.  Call 352-527-5975 for more information.
