Boil Water Notice issued in Citrus Springs Area

Citrus County, Florida-- A precautionary Boil Water Notice has been put into affect because of a main line leak on N Pocono Dr. in Citrus Spring, the Board of County Commissioners announced Monday.

According to BOCC reps, the line specifically services homes between 7889 and 8225, N Pocono Dr. The loss of pressure in the distribution system could impact the bacteriological quality of the water, and in turn make it unsafe for consumption and cooking before boiling.

Citrus County Utilities will flush the affected lines and collect two consecutive days of bacteriological samples before lifting the notice. At that time, residents' doors will be tagged with a rescinding notice.

Please call 352-527-7650 for additional information or clarification.

In the meantime, they have provided specific instructions for properly boiling any tap water:

  • Run water from faucets for several seconds to flush any sediment or other contaminants from the plumbing.
  • Roll boil water for a minimum of one minute before use for food preparation or drinking until notified not to do so.
  • Do not add bleach, chlorine, or any other substance, as a disinfectant to water in an effort to make it drinkable as this may be extremely hazardous to your health.  The most effective means to insure your safety is to boil water.
  • Apply these procedures until notified not to do so.  You can return to normal water use at that time.
