Citrus County first responders to practice 'active shooter' drill at school

Inverness, Florida-- With tragic events such as the Aurora, CO movie theatre shooting, and the Newtown, CT elementary school shooting, it cannot be denied that any and all law enforcement, fire and rescue officials and emergency medical personnel need to be fully trained in an "active shooter", mass casualty scenario.

That is why on Friday, March 24, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office will host an "active shooter" training drill at the Withlacoochee Technical institute in Inverness.

Officials say it will focus on what would typically unfold within in the first few minutes of a violent, mass-casualty crisis, and how EMS, Fire Rescue, School District and Sheriff's Office can most effectively collaborate with one another.

It will also integrate the response of an aero medical evacuation.
