Citrus County, FL -- Citrus County Housing Services will open its waiting list for Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 25. The waiting list will remain open for pre-applications through 5 p.m. on May 2.
For the first time in several years, Citrus County Housing Services will be accepting pre-applications for the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
It is a federally-funded rental assistance program provided by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for very low income families, especially those who fit one or more of a number of specific local preferences.
All applicants must be a current resident of Citrus County, and preference will be given those who fit into one the following categories: be an elderly persons 62 years or older, be a person with disabilities, or a victim of domestic violence.
Household income cannot exceed the following levels: 1 person, $16,550; 2 people, $18,900; 3 people, $21,250; 4 people, $23,600; 5 people, $25,500; 6 people, $27,400; 7 people, $29,300; 8 people, $31,200.
It is Housing Services' goal to reach those least likely to apply. They are defined as those who do not speak English, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and victims of domestic violence.
The pre-application process will be internet-based.
Applications will be available on the county Internet home page beginning April 25 at www.bocc.citrus.fl.us. The application will not be active until April 25.
After applicants have successfully applied on April 25 - May 2, they will receive a receipt with a confirmation number and instructions for checking their status online.
Applications may be sent by mail if requested.

Applications must be postmarked on or before May 2, 2011. Hand delivered or faxed applications will not be accepted.
