Reminder: Neighbor Helping Neighbor Training Thursday

Citrus County, Florida -- Reminder: The Neighbor Helping Neighbor training takes place this Thursday at The Nature Coast Volunteer center.

Volunteers will be educated on the simple steps one can take to become more prepared if a disaster should ever hit Citrus County.

Topics to be discussed range from creating a disaster kit, making a plan and the secure feeling of being prepared.

Citrus Springs, Florida -- The Citrus Springs Community Center is hosting a "Summer Beach Party" on Saturday, July 28. 

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with a $15 southern Bar-B-Q buffet.  The event runs until 8 p.m. 

The Citrus Springs Community Center is located at 1570 West Citrus Springs Boulevard, Citrus Springs.

Scallop Season underway in Citrus County

Citrus County, Florida-- Time to get out your snorkels and masks...Scallop Season is in full swing in Citrus County.  Known as Scallop Country, Citrus County has some of the best recreational scalloping in the world. 

Boaters and scallopers flock to places like Crystal River and Homosassa to bag their scallops.  The season lasts through September 25. 

Citrus County's bay scallops sit in seagrass beds under five or six feet of water on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico.

Citrus County, Florida-- Citrus High School's class of 1982 will get together this weekend for their 20th reunion. 

According to the City of Inverness, reunion events are scheduled for Friday night and Saturday.

Friday night, July 6:  A mixer will take place at Stumpknockers on the Square in historic downtown Inverness beginning at 7 p.m.

Saturday, July 7:  DJ music will play poolside at The Plantation in Crystal River at noon. The evening’s event is from 6 p.m. to midnight, and will include dinner, entertainment, door prizes and "just plain fun."

Recycle your old phone books

Citrus County, Florida -- It's that time of year again when local telephone directories are being distributed. 

You can recycle your old telephone books at any of Citrus County's Single Stream Recycling Drop off Collection Centers. 

In addition, if your community has curbside recycling, you can simply place your outdated telephone directories in your recycling container with your other recyclables at your curb.

Inverness, Florida--... You have to apply for a permit to do so on Inverness-fl.gov. 

According to the site, "A permit is required for sales held within the City limits."  The permit is, however, free of charge, easily accessible online and comes with free advertising of your sale on the website.
