Affordable Housing Authority Committee appoints members

Citrus County, Fla. -- The Citrus County Affordable Housing Authority Committee has announced the appointment of Kim Farrar (Low Income Advocate), Harvey Gerber (Real Estate Professional), Nancy Smith (Planner), Barbara Wheeler (Citrus County Resident) and Ron Lieberman (For Profit Provider of Affordable Housing Repo) to the committee.

Commission Chairman, Winn Webb officiated the ceremony on Tuesday, Feb 21.

Lifeguard recognized for saving boy's life

Citrus County, Fla. -- On Feb. 14, during a regular session, the Board of County Commissioners presented a Certificate of Recognition to Terry Smith for his selfless act on Dec. 20 when responding to an unconscious swimmer at the Bicentennial Pool.

According to the county, Smith was lifeguarding at Bicentennial Pool, when a young boy became unconscious while swimming with his family who were visiting from out of town. Smith noticed that the young boy did not surface and reacted immediately, diving into the pool to recover and resuscitate him.

County's Water Resources Director resigns

Citrus County, Fla. -- Robert Knight, Water Resources Director is resigning from Citrus County Board of County Commissioners effective Feb. 24, 2012.

In the letter, Mr. Knight points out department successes and thanked his staff and County Administration for their support.

“I’ve set into motion the strategic plan for Water Resources and it’s now time for me to look forward to new challenges,” he stated.

Citrus County, FL -- The county says since the June 2011 departure of the Deputy County Administrator, County Administrator Brad Thorpe has evaluated the organizational structure of Senior Staff.

Thorpe is recommending to the board to revise the structure of Senior Staff and utilize two (2) existing Department Director positions to create a dual- role position to fulfill the duties previously handled by the Deputy Administrator.  Effective Feb. 14, Ken Frink, Director of Public Works and Cathy Pearson, Community Services Director will now be Assistant County Administrators.

Crystal River, FL -- On Dec. 13, at the Board of County Commission regular meeting, The Sunflower Springs Assisted Living Community Executive Director, Theressa Foster presented a check in the amount of $2,500 to the Citrus County Support Services Senior Programs to provide respite and daycare to those with Alzheimer’s.

County helps homeless during the upcoming cold season

Citrus County, FL -- The County announced it has been working closely with the Mission in Citrus homeless shelter, along with other community partners to achieve their goals of self-sufficiency.

Cathy Pearson, Community Services Director, says the county is concerned about the winter months ahead.

“The County and other community partners are allocating resources to ensure that the Mission in Citrus homeless shelter is able to operate through the cold season.”
