Tourism Development Council accepting applications

Citrus County, FL -- The Tourist Development Council is taking applications for two positions. The first is a regular-member position. Applications are being accepted through Nov. 30.

Applicants must be residents and registered voters in Citrus County. The position is open to anyone who “demonstrates an interest in tourist development."

Crystal River, FL -- The Citrus County Chamber of Commerce Crystal River Area Council will hold a town hall meeting Tuesday, Nov. 22.

Port Citrus Director Brad Thorpe will give a presentation on the development of Port Citrus. The town hall will be held at the Plantation Inn in Crystal River on from 5:30 - 7 p.m.

The public is invited to attend.

Citrus County BOCC elects new chairman

Citrus County, FL -- At its Nov. 15 regular meeting, the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners elected Commissioner Winn Webb to serve as the chairman of the commission for the next year.

Commissioner Joe Meek was elected 1st Vice Chairman, and Commissioner John J.J. Kenney was elected as 2nd Vice Chairman.

Each November the commission elects a new Chairman, 1st Vice-Chairman and 2nd Vice Chairman in a reorganization meeting. Webb has represented District 5 since 2008. Dennis Damato was the outgoing chairman.

Citrus County, FL -- The Citrus County Commission will meet on Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. at 110 N. Apopka Avenue, Room 100 in Inverness.

Staring at 1:30 p.m. the Board will present the following Proclamations, and Certificates of Recognition:

  • Certificate of Recognition to Russell Rasco, CEO for his many years of dedication to the Marion Citrus Mental Health Centers. Russell will officially retire on November 11 after 33 years with The Centers.

Citrus County, FL -- The Citrus County Affordable Housing Advisory Committee will meet Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 5 p.m. in room 166 in the Lecanto Government Building.

On the agenda, new member Leslie Darr will be sworn in.  Also on the agenda: SHIP, Hardest Hit, Neighborhood Stabilization Program, Shelter Plus Care, Section 8, and CDBG.

4th Annual Roast 'n Toast honors former County Commissioner Gary Bartell

Citrus County, FL -- Join the Florida Public Relations Association at the 4th Annual Roast n' Toast on Sept. 9.

This year's guest of honor will be former Commissioner Gary Bartell. Roastmaster Gerry Mulligan, Citrus County Chronicle publisher, will moderate a team of Bartell's closest friends through slapstick humor and heartfelt tales.

Featured on the panel will be Gail Oakes, Clark Stillwell, Gary Kuhl, Sonny Vegara and Curt Ebitz. Rumor has it that a surprise roaster will make a special appearance.
