Citrus County, Florida -- On March 8, the Board of County Commissioners held a special preliminary budget meeting to begin the budget planning process for the next fiscal year, which will begin on October 1.

Both the county's Department of Management and Budget and the Property Appraiser provided PowerPoint presentations providing historical data, general taxation information, national, state and local trends and potential taxing strategies.

Crystal River, Florida -- Can't attend regular Citrus County board of County Commissioners meetings? Don't worry, not only can you watch them broadcast live, you can now get a quick summary of the board’s actions in after-commission news notes provided on-line as “County Commission News.”

The news notes are put on the website a day or two after the meetings and are in a simple form that can be downloaded and printed for hard copy distribution, so citizens are always informed about what is on the commissioners' agendas.

If you'd like to attend and keep up on city-related affairs, head down to the Inverness Government Center at 212 West Main Street at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.


Council Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of every month.

Public Safety Initiative Task Force announces meeting dates, tentative topics

Citrus County, FL-- The new Public Safety Initiative Task Force (PSITF) has announced tentative meeting dates and topics for its investigation into combining law enforcement, fire rescue and emergency medical services into one department under the Sheriff’s Office.

The meetings are open to the public. The task force will make recommendations to the county commission in April. The first meeting will be at 9 a.m. on Feb. 4 in Room 166 at the Lecanto Government Building. The tentative meeting/topics schedule, which can also be found on the county's blog, includes the following:
