Libraries to close early

Inverness, FL -- Beginning on Oct. 3, Citrus Libraries will shorten closing times in the evening by one hour, Monday through Thursday, at all locations.

The hour adjustment is the direct result of necessary staff reductions to balance the budget for their 2012 fiscal year.

The library system has worked to address the revenue shortfall through staff retirements and by not filling open positions.

Crystal River, FL -- The new restroom facility at Fort Island Gulf Beach has been completed and officially opened to the public on Sept. 1.

Sal Viglione of SVIII General Contractors Inc., along with the county’s Road Maintenance, Grounds Maintenance and Facilities Management Divisions was able to push this project along in time for the Labor Day weekend.

Inverness, FL -- The boardwalks at Liberty Park & Cooter Pond will be power washed and sealed starting Wednesday, Aug. 31.

The project will continue for the next couple of weeks.

The city asks that you please be patient while sections of the boardwalk are closed while the work is being done.

Citrus County, FL -- Bicentennial Pool has announced its hours for the fall season. With a heated Junior Olympic-size pool you'll have a place to go as temps start to fall this fall.

Fall hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings opening at 6 a.m., with lane lines for those dedicated to lap swimming before they go to work.

Also, on Tuesday and Thursday mornings the pool will provide lap swimming at 8 a.m., no lane lines will be provide on these days.

Grab the kiddies and head to Lecanto Community Park for viewing under the stars of 2008's Kung Fu Panda.

On Saturday night, Po the Panda will try to live up to his chosen title as the Dragon Warrior despite the fact he is obese and a novice martial artist.

The movie stars Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman and Angelina Jolie.

Gulf Beach remains open to swimming as of July 22

Ft. Island Gulf Beach Park remains open for swimming after the Citrus County Environmental Health Department reported the most recent test of bacterial samples remain at a safe level.

The water is tested each week on Wednesday morning, and if the samples are too high, the Health Department issues an advisory against swimming and no swimming signs will be posted.

Bedtime Stories

Inverness, FL -- Bedtime stories are being read at the Coastal Region Library.

Children and their families, or caregivers, are welcome to attend the story time on Wednesday, July 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The address is 8619 West Crystal Street, Crystal River. Bedtime Stories, and children's music, will be played in the Youth Room.
