Citrus County Animal Services offers discount on cats and kittens!

Citrus County, Florida-- Animal Services launched a limited time offer Thursday for half off of the adoption price on all spayed and neautered cats and kittens currently at their facility. 

According to a flier on their website, the offer will last through August 31, and gives locals a choice of over "60 pretty kitties to choose from!"

Pet Adoption Event set for Saturday, June 29

Citrus County, Florida-- The Citrus County Animal Services Mobile adoption unit will be at Walmart in Homosassa with adoptable pets on Saturday, June 29, 2013.

Animals can be adopted on-site from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., so head out there and scoop up your new best friend!

Crystal River, Florida -- Nature Coast Volunteer Center has been awarded the "Communities for a Lifetime" grant from the state of Florida Department of Elder Affairs.

The purpose of this program is to provide and install smoke alarms throughout the month of June for seniors in need, age 60 and older. The goal is to help at-risk seniors age in place safely and independently.

Citrus County, Florida -- Seniors in Citrus County can get help with their smoke alarms.  The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners, Nature Coast Volunteer Center has been awarded the Communities for a Lifetime grant from the state of Florida Department of Elder Affairs.  

The purpose of this program is to provide and install smoke alarms through the month of June for seniors in need age 60 and older. The overall objective is to help at-risk seniors age in a place safely and independently.

Citrus County, Florida-- Funds are still available for the Emergency Home Energy Assistance for the Elderly Program (EHEAP). This is a sister program of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

The winter months (heating season) is coming to an end, and staff is trying to use remaining funds before March 31.

Citrus County, Florida-- Housing Services will accept energy assistance applications on a walk-in basis for one day only.  Ordinarily applications for LIHEAP are accepted by appointment only due to the demand for assistance.

Free Women’s Fishing Clinic in Crystal River

Crystal River, FL-- The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will offer a FREE Women's Fishing Clinic this coming Saturday. 

"Participants will not only take home a lifelong hobby, they will leave with a new appreciation for the marine environment. They will learn the basics of environmental stewardship, fishing ethics, angling skills, safety and the vulnerability of Florida’s marine ecosystems in a fun, laid-back learning atmosphere," explains a release about the clinic.
