Manatees and cold weather

Citrus County, FL -- The cold weather is creating a dangerous situation for manatees in Florida, including in Citrus County.

Wildlife officials say that manatees suffer from potentially deadly cold stress when water temperatures dip into the 60s. Boaters are encouraged to slow down as the manatees make their way to warmer water.

An estimated 111 manatees in Florida died last year due to the cold.

Trees down in Citrus County

Trees down in Citrus County

A Citrus County resident sent us the above photo of storm damage in his area early Thursday morning, along with this description:

"Here is just one tree from my yard that went down very easily yesterday in southern Citrus County. Several other trees were uprooted around my house, as well as my neighbor who had outside plumbing (which was completely stripped) and a fence blown over. People in his house said they saw a tornado heading straight for their house, and confirmed it after the storm as they saw a path of trees blown over across the street in the Withlacoochee Forest."
