Citrus County, Florida-- For some homebound seniors who receive home delivered meals through Citrus County’s Home Delivered Meals program, the volunteers who bring them their hot meals may be the only faces they see for an entire week.
Last Friday, they got a special treat when Citrus county officials rode along with volunteers and helped deliver meals specially prepared in honor of St. Patrick's Day- Irish stew with cabbage and green
Among the officials were four county commissioners- Joe Meek, Rebecca Bays, JJ Kenney and Dennis Damato-, two assistant county administrators- Cathy Pearson and Ken Frink- and County Attorney Richard Wesch.
Each commissioner and county staff worker went on a different route, and met each homebound senior.
The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners declared March as “March for Meals” month in Citrus County at the regular Board meeting. The event is a National Campaign from the Meals on Wheels Association of America, which brings awareness of senior hunger issues.
Citrus County’s Home Delivered Meal program delivers food to seniors in need, made possible by a federal grant under the Older Americans Act of 1965, and several fundraisers throughout the year.
