Freeze Warning for tonight

A Freeze Warning for Citrus, Hernando, Levy and Sumter Counties in the 10 News viewing region will be in effect from 2:00am to 8:00am tonight.

In these counties, temperatures will likely fall to 28 - 34 with only a light breeze through the night.

Make sure to bring potted plants inside for the night and cover any tender vegetation you would like to preserve through the night's cold.  Also, don't forget to bring outdoor pets in too.

Friday night will likely run several degrees warmer but might be a more favorable night for patchy frost as the cold area of high pressure moves directly overhead.

Looking ahead... yet another cold front will pass through the area Sunday pushing in a reinforcing shot of even colder air.  At this time, I believe next week could feature a harder freeze for our counties to the north with even a few spots closer in to the immediate bay area flirting with the lower to mid 30s.  We'll keep you posted.

Freeze Warnings Tonight

The National Weather Service in Ruskin, FL has issued a Freeze Warning for Citrus County tonight.  The warning takes affect early tomorrow morning from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. as that is the time that the mercury is expected to hover near the freezing mark.

An arctic airmass is plunging southeast across the U.S. today bringing strong storms, gusty winds and cold air to much of the eastern seaboard today. That airmass will spill into the Bay area today and leave us with lows in the low 40s in Tampa and low 30s north of town including Citrus County and points northward.

Residents in the warning area should consider covering sensitive plants tonight.  If you have exposed pipes, you might want to cover them as well or leave the faucet dripping lightly overnight to prevent frozen pipes.

Forecast: Cold air arrives

A cold front now moving through the area will bring rain showers this morning, gusty and cool northwest winds all day and eventually freeze warnings for parts of the Bay area tonight.

The first half of the day will include a few showers this morning followed by gradually clearing skies.  Winds will be very gusty blowing in the 15-25 mph range from the NW with gusts in the 30s.  Skies will begin to clear by noon today leaving us with sunny, cool and windy conditions for the afternoon.  Temperatures will stay in the mid to low 60s and decrease quickly this evening into the 50s then 40s.

Bullets fly, stories don't match up in road rage shooting

UPDATE: Investigators say they're handling conflicting reports after people in one car shot at another car overnight in Palm Harbor.

Here's the latest update, with information released later Monday morning:

Conflicting stories are emerging in the case of a road rage shooting that started in Palm Harbor early Monday morning.

It happened overnight at Alternate U.S. 19 and Crystal Drive.
Two cars were involved, and deputies say one was shooting at the other.

A bullet hole in one of the cars is about the only thing deputies know for sure. Investigators say a white Chevy Lumina sedan pulled up alongside a blue Ford Focus. There was an argument.

"During the course of the altercation, a shot was fired. We don't know how many at this time -- we're simply investigating that," Pinellas Sheriff's Sgt. Howard Skaggs said.
