Parks and Recreation Expands into Sports Marketing
Parks and Recreation Expands into Sports Marketing

Citrus County, Florida-- The Parks and Recreation Department within the Board of County Commissioners announced Friday its plans to move in a new direction.

After a reorganization of the department, they plan to bring new and exciting events to Citrus County!

Staff is striving to bring national tournaments to the area such as lacrosse, soccer, softball, fishing and baseball.  Cheerleading, BMX and 4-H Drill team competitions could also be in the future.

Department reps say these types of events and tournaments will draw tourism revenue into county and not only help the Parks and Recreation Department, but also local hotels, shops and restaurants.

With Parks and Recreation staff working in the direction of sports tourism, current programs have been reviewed to find out which are being duplicated throughout the community.

Reps say the Parks and Recreation Department has been competing with the YMCA and the Boys and Girls Clubs with summer camps, but a meeting with Joanna Castle, Executive Director of the YMCA, resulted in a new agreement. She will take over the Parks & Recreation program called “Camp Fusion” beginning this summer (May 2013).

This will allow the Parks and Recreation Department staff to attract  various tournaments to the area. Staff also plans to host several sports clinics and camps over the summer.

You can find updates and more information at http://www.citruscountyparks.com/.  Summer camp registration for the YMCA begins in March.
