Freeze Warnings Tonight

The National Weather Service in Ruskin, FL has issued a Freeze Warning for Citrus County tonight.  The warning takes affect early tomorrow morning from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. as that is the time that the mercury is expected to hover near the freezing mark.

An arctic airmass is plunging southeast across the U.S. today bringing strong storms, gusty winds and cold air to much of the eastern seaboard today. That airmass will spill into the Bay area today and leave us with lows in the low 40s in Tampa and low 30s north of town including Citrus County and points northward.

Residents in the warning area should consider covering sensitive plants tonight.  If you have exposed pipes, you might want to cover them as well or leave the faucet dripping lightly overnight to prevent frozen pipes.

The cold airmass will slowly moderate and warm over the next few days, but not before one more night of near freezing temperatures.  As a result, there is a Freeze Watch in effect for Citrus County for Thursday night.
