FDOT lists lane closures for Citrus County

Citrus County, FL-- The Florida Department of Transportation has announced only one non-interstate lane closure for Citrus County commuters to keep an eye out for beginning Monday, July 29.

Crews will be repaving Florida Avenue (US 41) between the Hernando/Citrus County Line and South Rip Terrace, so drivers can expect intermittent daily lane closures Monday – Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Citrus County Central Landfill will be conducting a hazardous household waste drop off  on Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Citrus County Central Landfill. 

Citizens may bring up to 60 lbs. or 10 gallons of materials free of charge.

Citrus County offers tips on "What to Plant in July"

Citrus County, Florida-- If you're looking into landscaping, you may want to check out the information included in the Citrus County Extension Services' publication, "What to Plant in July."

They recommend bedding plants like celosia, coleus, torenia and ornamental pepper, bulbs like butterfly lily and gladiolus, and even palms while the rainy season is in full swing.

As for herbs, they say it's too hot to start them from seeds, but that many will do well if started from small plants. 

Wildlife Ranger Camp lasts through July 20

Homosassa, Florida-- This week the wildlife ranger camp is taking place at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park.  

The camp for eight and nine-year-olds starts today, Monday July 15 and runs through Saturday, July 20. Each Wildlife Ranger Camp includes four, half-day camp sessions from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and the Friday session starts at 4 p.m. with an overnight stay in the park. A graduation ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday. 

The cost of the program is $65 per child and includes a t-shirt and supplies.  

Fatal car accident in Citrus County

Inverness, Florida -- A single person crash on Moccasin Drive ends with the death of the driver. 

According to reports, Randy Beardmore was driving on eastbound Moccasin Drive and attempted to negotiate a left curve in the roadway when his pickup truck veered onto the shoulder. 

Beardmore lost control of the truck while attempting to steer back in the roadway and the truck spun out and collided with a power pole. Beardmore sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene of the crash.

New Recycling Drop-off Center in NW Citrus County

Citrus County, Florida-- Citrus County's carbon footprint could soon decrease, or at least that's the hope as the Division of Solid Waste Management announces the addition of a new Recycling Drop-off Center in the northwest part of the county. 

According to county commissioners, officials feel the new center's location will make it convenient for more residents to recycle, so the county as a whole can come closer to meeting established recycling goals.
