Arrest made in Inverness Murder

Inverness, FL - A day after the body of a 57-year old Inverness woman was found behind her rural home, authorities have made an arrest in the case.

Officials say they picked up 69-year old Bob Jay Parsons Tuesday afternoon in connection with the murder of Arlene Preg.

The two lived together in a home at 2108 E. Mary Lue Street.

Preg's body was discovered underneath a sheet of plywood behind the couple's home by one of Preg's daughters on Monday. However, Parsons was no where to be found.

Citrus County, FL -- In its ongoing efforts to bolster the performance of its mobile broadband network in the Tampa area, AT&T announced today, April 20, it has added extra capacity to more than 60 cell sites and activated two new sites.

Customers are expected to experience improved mobile broadband and voice performance as a result of the upgrades in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus counties.

The capacity network upgrade added new layers of frequency, also known as “carriers,” to support more voice and data traffic on the cell sites.

USF student drowns while cave diving

Chassahowitzka, Florida --  A University of South Florida student who was two weeks away from graduating, died Sunday while cave diving with friends, according to the Citrus County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office says the investigation is still ongoing, but we are told that Amy Ryan, 22, was with her boyfriend Steven Orosz of Zephyrhills and another couple when they went cave diving in the springs off of S. Riviera Point.

A sheriff's office spokeswoman tells 10 News the group was not wearing scuba gear, only goggles at the time.

Citrus County, FL -- Citrus County Housing Services will open its waiting list for Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 25. The waiting list will remain open for pre-applications through 5 p.m. on May 2.

For the first time in several years, Citrus County Housing Services will be accepting pre-applications for the Housing Choice Voucher Program.

It is a federally-funded rental assistance program provided by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for very low income families, especially those who fit one or more of a number of specific local preferences.

About 150 soldiers return to Bay area from Afghanistan

Crystal River, FL -- It was a great day for several local families and friends welcoming home their loved ones just back from a year-long deployment in Afghanistan.


Nearly 150 soldiers from the Florida National Guard's 690th unit flew in to Tampa International Airport and returned to Crystal River today.


Hundreds of people showed up to greet them with flowers, signs and plenty of hugs.

Crystal River, FL -- Progress Energy Florida has notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) that the Crystal River Nuclear plant will remain out of service while the company conducts a thorough engineering analysis and review of the new delamination.

Options to return the plant to service will be analyzed after the report is complete. 

The company cannot estimate a return to service date for CR3 at this time.

More storms ahead today, as damage cleanup goes on

Inverness, Florida -- A second area of low pressure will develop and move across Florida through the day Thursday.

Thursday's storms will be capable of damaging wind gusts, torrential rain, dangerous lightning, and still an isolated tornado risk.

It's not possible to say where Thursday's weather will be worst. On Wednesday, folks in the Tampa Bay area's northern counties felt the brunt of it.
