Swimming lessons for the whole family

Inverness, Florida -- Whispering Pines Park is offering the whole family swim lessons for the summer!

They have swim lessons from 6 months old to adult. There are three morning sessions available starting June 3, June 17 and July 8th. Evening sessions begin June 4 and July 9th.

The cost for the eight class swim session is only $35!

All classes follow the American Red Cross curriculum and all of the instructors are certified Water Safety Instructors.

Citrus County, Florida-- July 1st marks the opening of scalloping season in Citrus County, which runs through September 10th. 

Part snorkeling experience, part treasure dive and part saltwater fishing trip, scalloping along the unspoiled shores of Crystal River and Homosassa provides a salty adventure to fishers of all ages.

Citrus County Parks and Recreation offers summer Archery Camp

Citrus County, Florida-- Looking for something for the kids to do now that school is over?  Citrus County Parks and Recreation has "Archery Camp" for children 6 to 15 years old.   

There will be four camps offered for different age groups:

  • 6-8 year olds
  • 9-11 year olds
  • 12-15 year olds

The camps will run Monday through Thursday with two separate classes each day, starting on Monday, June 17, 2013.

Citrus County, Florida -- Citrus County Parks & Recreation presents "Kayaking Camp" for children ages 8-11 and 12-15.

The camps will run Monday, June 3 through Friday, June 7 with two separate classes each day.

Monday - Thursday the camp will be at Hernando Beach (3699 E. Orange Dr. Hernando, FL 34442) then, on Friday, camp will be held at Chassahowitzka River (8600 W. Miss Maggie Drive Homosassa, FL 34448) for the Kayaking Adventure.

Tampa Bay Rays baseball trip

Crystal River, Florida --  Citrus County's Home Delivered Meals Program and the Senior Foundation of Citrus County are scheduling trips to the Tampa Bay Rays Baseball games. 

Tickets are $45 each and include round-trip chartered bus transportation from the Citrus County Resource Center to Tropicana Field in Saint Petersburg and admission/seating at the game. 

The next one is taking place on Wednesday, April 24, 2013. 

The game will be against the New York Yankees and starts at 7:10pm.  Call 352-527-5975 for more information.

Citrus County, Florida-- The Key Training Center’s Who’s on First and Florida Premier Prospects, in conjunction with Citrus County Parks and Recreation, are proud to present Super Series Baseball Tournaments- one of the nation’s largest and fastest growing Baseball Organizations. 

The “Qualifying” tournaments will be held at Citrus County’s Bicentennial Park in Crystal River, Florida on Saturday, March 30 through Sunday, March 31 and then on Saturday, June 15 through Sunday, June 16.

Parks and Recreation Expands into Sports Marketing

Citrus County, Florida-- The Parks and Recreation Department within the Board of County Commissioners announced Friday its plans to move in a new direction. 

After a reorganization of the department, they plan to bring new and exciting events to Citrus County!

Staff is striving to bring national tournaments to the area such as lacrosse, soccer, softball, fishing and baseball.  Cheerleading, BMX and 4-H Drill team competitions could also be in the future.
